About Uday

A meditation teacher and counsellor in Sydney

Peace and contentment are the goal. Meditation is how I help you get there, and counselling is the support that makes a sustained practice possible.

I’m a meditation teacher and counsellor based in Sydney, and a Level 1 member of the Australian Counselling Association (#23534). I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and corporate teams.

Before founding Aum Holistics, I spent over a decade in crisis intervention, including more than 3,000 hours of crisis prevention and intervention work with Lifeline Australia and 50+ suicide-risk interventions. That work shaped how I show up in the therapy room and on the meditation cushion: steady, direct, and unafraid of hard conversations.

My path here has been varied, with transitions and ongoing, continuous learning. An engineering background gave me a grounding in logic. A postgraduate degree in science and technology helped build a stronger foundation in scientific endeavour. A Graduate Diploma in Counselling and a decade of counselling work built my emotional intelligence, the foundation that now supports my meditation teaching. I was initiated into the Ram Naam tradition of Gondavalekar Maharaj and have practised mantra meditation for over two decades, long before I began teaching it to others. That sustained personal practice has been a source of wisdom. In 2021, I walked roughly 3,500 kilometres along the Narmada River in India as a wandering monk, a Narmada Parikrama that was a lived experience of self-actualisation, a process that continues to shape how I sit with people in distress.

I hold a Graduate Diploma of Counselling (Australian College of Applied Psychology) and use an integrated, client-centred approach, drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Trauma-Informed practice, all in service of a steadier meditation practice. I’m a certified Meditation Teacher, and I design and run wellbeing and meditation sessions alongside individual counselling work.

We meditate for peace; we counsel for contentment. Meditation is the path. Counselling is what makes walking it possible.

Some of what I carried back from that walk became a book, A Fool in Search of Wisdom, eleven short stories about an ordinary man’s search for peace, drawn from a 350-year-old Indian wisdom text.

If any of this feels familiar, I’d welcome a conversation.
